Fort Macon National Park | Atlantic Beach

Fort Macon National Park

Sporting multiple personalities to peak anyone’s interest. The Fort Macon State Park is a perfectly restored Civil War-era fort, a museum-quality coastal education center and boasts unspoiled shorelines for swimming, surf fishing, and shell hunting. Nearly surrounded by water at the eastern tip of Bogue Banks, the park offers undisturbed natural beauty and opportunities to explore and learn about salt marshes, estuaries and dune fields. The fort – once a project of Rober E. Lee as a young army engineer – has a history as intricate and unique as the ecosystem that surrounds it. Cannon and musket demonstrations and guided tours are regular features. Be sure to check out some the authenticity of the Cannon Firings beginning May 2019.
