Atlantic Beach – Fun in the Sun!

Looking to plan an Atlantic Beach vacation? It’s one of the best places to relax and enjoy sun and surf on the Crystal Coast! Atlantic Beach has beautiful, clean and uncrowded beaches. But the real difference between Atlantic Beach and many other beaches are the man-made canals and bays that provide boat access for Atlantic Beach homes. Charter boats and marinas along with a fishing pier create the perfect fishing paradise.

Did you know Atlantic Beach is also, home to Fort Macon State Park? Built in the early eighteen hundreds, Fort Macon was used in a number of wars to protect Beaufort Inlet. Now a state park, it is also home to a Coast Guard Station. Fort Macon is a 398-acre state park, one of the most popular in the United States. Swimming, fishing, nature programs and trails, guided tours of the Fort, a museum with numerous exhibits and audio‑visual displays are just some of the activities available. Large public beach access and rock jetties highlight this park.

Atlantic Beach is also, the oldest community on the 30-mile length of a barrier island,  known as Bogue [bohg] Banks. Originally accessible only by ferry, in 1929 a toll bridge from the mainland to the island was built and in 1934 it was sold to the state of North Carolina.  Atlantic Beach has always been referred to as a “local’s beach.” Many of the original cottages are still in use and feature knotty pine walls and floors. Newer homes often incorporate wood flooring and ceilings plus large porches and large windows to take advantage of the ocean breezes.
