It’s no wonder why year after year Beaufort, North Carolina has been dubbed “America’s Favorite Small Town” and is the crown jewel of the Crystal Coast. It was in 1709 that the town was established on the grounds of a former Indian village. With its rich maritime heritage filled with pirates, Indians and English history. Located at the mouth of Beaufort Inlet, this town was a port of destination since the early 1700’s. Later designated as “FishTowne”, there is a long history of fishing, boat building and maritime research. Duke University and NOAA have both been community partners for over 70 years. With the cultural activities offered by the NC Maritime Museum, Beaufort Historic Association and The Rachel Carson Estuarine Research Reserve, the town has achieved a cosmopolitan atmosphere while maintaining its fishing roots. The Old Burying Ground is a favorite haunt of tourists and locals alike. Graves date back to the 1600’s and stories abound about the inhabitants there.

Small quaint cottages are situated beside large two story mansions adding to the village like atmosphere you will find here. As the town has grown and prospered, many more areas have been developed. All of this is available within a short distance to the magnificent waterways of the Crystal Coast. Recreational fishing and water sports such as Stand Up Paddleboarding & kayaking are popular attractions all within minutes of the beautiful beaches of The Crystal Coast. Beaufort has a first class golf course, The Beaufort Club, a small private airport known as Michael J. Smith Field and delightful shops on the waterfront.
